Promoting justice and strengthening efforts to ensure accountability
The Рroject aims to strengthen the capacity of the Ukrainian justice system to ensure the effective investigation and prosecution of international crimes committed in connection with Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. Its key objective is to facilitate the development of a comprehensive national strategy to ensure justice for the most serious international crimes by bringing together the efforts of state bodies, civil society, the expert community and international partners.
The project involves conducting legal and policy analysis, coordinating the work of an expert group, preparing recommendations for reforms, advocacy and supporting dialogue among all stakeholders.
Expected outcomes:
- a draft concept for a national strategy on accountability for the most serious international crimes has been developed;
- coordination between state bodies, civil society and international partners has been strengthened;
- analytical recommendations have been prepared on improving legislation and practices relating to the investigation of international crimes;
- an updated assessment of the needs of Ukraine’s justice system in the area of investigating international crimes;
- strengthened advocacy for reforms aimed at ensuring justice and protecting the rights of victims.
